Re: Banks Lake Craws?

Thanks for the tips guys!

I just downloaded the new fishing regs. Crawfish opens the first Monday in May, so we will be good to go in June.

Banks Lake Craws?

My brothers and I are heading up to Banks Lake for the first time in early June. We are mainly going for bass and walleye but hoping for a Burbot or two. We will be staying at Steamboat state park. I've been reading Banks reports and it looks like there are craws in Banks. Ive been wanting to try ea...

Re: Downrigger Cable

Dang!.... The black box people have spoken. It's hard to bid an argument with the Salmon University people. The have fish education. What is a guy to do...? [sneaky] My mom always told me to quit reading forums and go fishing or I would go blind. Sometimes I'm a good boy and mind my mom and sometim...

Re: Downrigger Cable

Just to balance things out a bit - aren't there at least three sides to every debate? :) We have two Cannon electric riggers with the built in "Black Box" on our boat. It keeps the wire at roughly .6 volts at all times. Not much voltage and virtually zero current. I considered switching to braid, bu...

Re: 2 pole indorsment and fishing with kids

Ok, clicking on the "other" tab after you get your wild ID info input lets you purchase a "youth license". However, it doesnt tell you that until your part way through the procedure. Not the most intuitive way to do it, but it worked. Im sure Im not the first one to run into this. Oh well. Date/Time...

Re: 2 pole indorsment and fishing with kids

I got an answer from the WDFW people. I should NOT have been charged. Looks like I clicked on the "Fishing" tab when I should have clicked on the "other" tab  I'll try again :) Thank you for contacting the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. You are correct the license for und...

Re: Sturgeon

I havent been sturgeon fishing in several years. We mostly fished the lower Columbia around Astoria, buoy 10 etc. Biggest ones we caught there were in the 60" range. We did fish just below the Bonneville dam a few times for the bigs ones. Caught on 7 ft and one just a hair over 9ft. All caught on br...

Dont have a clue. Did you get the combined license or just fresh water? I may call them tomorrow to find out.

Re: 2 pole indorsment and fishing with kids

I just purchased a combined license for my grandson - who just turned 14 yrs old last month. The WDFW on-line purchase cost me $6.05 for license and $2.00 dealer fee. That's for a single pole with no special endorsements or extra cards etc. I did get him a salmon and sturgeon catch record card, but ...

Banks Lake Burbot?

My brothers and I are planning our first ever trip to Banks lake for later this spring. We are planning to stay in one of the camp grounds in or near Steam Boat park. Possibly in mid May. We are looking forward to the bass and walleye fishing of course, but I am particularly wanting to catch some Bu...

Looking for a good Crappie lake?

My brothers and I live near Tacoma and would like to try some Crappie fishing. We have a boat, so a launch is necessary. Dont mind driving a ways so Shelton, Olympia, Seattle are all easy drives for us. Would be willing to drive further if the fishing was good O:) Any suggestions would be greatly ap...

Re: Downrigger release for spectra lines?

The Chamberlain release works as advertised. I was able to set it for a fairly easy release tug and still able to really tighten up the line between the pole and the release a lot more than I normally can.

So far, I like it a lot!

There is one down side - we didnt catch any fish!

Re: Downrigger release for spectra lines?

I order one of those non-stacking Chamberlain releases last Friday the 28th and it arrived today 1 Apr. Pretty fast turn around! Turns out its cheaper to order direct from Chamberlain. The Ebay and other dealers ended up costing more by the time you included shipping. Cost was $21 shipped. http://ww...

Re: Downrigger release for spectra lines?

Thats a good point about the mono top shot. On the other hand, we are using all braided lines except on our lighter bass/trout fishing rigs. The one thing that really appeals to me about the Chamberlain releases is the ability to really tighten up the line between the pole and the clip and still be ...

Re: Downrigger release for spectra lines?

Thanks guys!

We will give the tooth pick and wrap techniques a try. Those both sound like they would be good easy solutions.

I am very interested in the Chamberlain releases though. If they work like the video says, they should be awesome. Im planning to get one of those to test out.

Downrigger release for spectra lines?

My brothers and I switched over to braided spectra/spider wire type lines for salmon fishing in the sound a few years back. We mostly use 30#-40#. Since the change, we have had lots of trouble with our downrigger releases not working well with this line because its so slippery. We had been using the...

Bonneville pool fishing?

New member here planning a first time fishing trip above Bonneville dam. Ive fished the lower Columbia for sturgeon several times. My question is, do I need the same anchor float rig we used on the lower river? I sold the boat that we used to use for sturgeon, along with the anchor, float etc, and m...
