Re: Tribal gil nets are in the water in MA 10

Good post. The original treaty was a FEDERAL treaty; Boldt was a FEDERAL judge; the case was heard in a FEDERAL court and the decision was reviewed by the Supremes, a FEDERAL body. I've just never seen a place in any of this for the State of Washington. The email I got back from the WDFW is right. T...

Re: Tribal gil nets are in the water in MA 10

(My issue is salmon, not crab, I don't do crab.) I know that degree of reporting salmon catches is the way it is supposed to be. But is it really? Who enforces the reporting of salmon catches and ensures it is accurate? Why aren't the numbers ever made public? Why is everything such a big secret? I ...

Re: Tribal gil nets are in the water in MA 10

Everybody has their own opinion. I kinda feel sorry for the WDFW, it must be frustrating for them. I've heard some stories, about Tribal behavior at some of the meetings with WDFW. I don't want to repeat them because I don't know if the stories are true or not. I've given up on the State. Lots of ta...

Re: Tribal gil nets are in the water in MA 10

There is a lot to not like. Biggest thing is the lack of openness in the whole thing. Negotiations are all secret. We get bean counted to death, everybody knows how many fish we get and the number is over counted IMO. But it is supposed to be a 50% split. I have never seen the numbers and I doubt th...

Re: Tribal gil nets are in the water in MA 10

I did send an email to WDFW regarding this incident. I was pretty sure this tribal gillnet guy was within his rights but thought I'd report it anyway. This is a cut/paste on the response I got back from WDFW, which sez a lot about how things actually work (or don't work). Thank you for contacting WD...

Tribal gil nets are in the water in MA 10

I just put my Seahawk in dry storage at Edmonds Marina today. Due to getting the boat ready, signing papers, launching it and paying some $, I didn't start fishing until 10:15. Good day of hooking but not so good catching, by myself I hooked 8, caught 2 keepers and one wild. This is true, about 1:00...

Re: New deadheads on the lower Snohomish

Not much room there after it gets off the trlr, no dock. I haven't actually launched there yet. I took a look at it last week. At the bottom of the tide , depending on how low it gets, doesn't look like enuff water to launch/recover my 18' Seahawk. I was going to try it tomorrow but I'm going out in...

Re: New deadheads on the lower Snohomish

I hope somebody hangs a buoy on it. As for me, I think I'll start using the new Snohomish ramp.

OK. I get it. In order to initiate a new topic, first you have to enter the area, River, Saltwater etc.

New deadheads on the lower Snohomish

This AM I launched at Everett and ran up the Sno. I launched at Everett cause I was by myself in my Seahawk, there was a pretty low tide later and I thought Everett would be easier to recover.. I've been running up the Sno for Pinks for 15 years or so, usually every Pink year. I didn't see it going ...

Re: New reports/new posts?

I may be dense, but since you adopted this new format, I cant see a prompt to post a new topic. Seems like there should be a nice big button at the top of the Forum page to post a new topic. Must be there but I cant find it.

Thanks

Re: Snohomish river

Thanks. I've jigged for Pinks in the tidewater Sno for years and its fun! I'll prob just launch at Everett or Langus and not have to worry about the tide.

Re: Snohomish river

Today I went to the new launching ramp upstream from the town of Snohomish just to take a look. Today the combination of low river and low tide, there is no way I could launch my 18' Seahawk there. The ramp is way too shallow right now. There were 15-20 rigs parked there but all small boats 12-14 fe...
