Re: Invasive species sticker for Idaho?

We took our kayaks on a week long trip to Glacier last summer. When we drove across the Idaho and Montana borders there were signs directing us off at the first rest area (think it was just before Coeur d'Alene in ID) for watercraft inspection. Since we didn't have motorized watercraft then it was j...

Re: Stump Lake Access

Jon just saved a bunch of money on health insurance by switching to Canada. You can spend as little or as much on fishing as you'd like. I think many of us are like minded in the fact that we don't want to spend $ unnecessarily....especially for stocked lake trout of all things. In my opinion, if wh...

Re: Water Pump on Honda Outboard

Ralph, The water pump (impeller) is typically located in the lower unit and is USUALLY not difficult to replace with a little mechanical skill. However, corrosion can make it a more difficult job, so if you're not confident in your abilities, then best left to someone else. First though, are you sur...

Re: Unweighted spoons

Theoretically, you'd think it would work, but in reality it's not a feasible approach. The large light spoon would need to be on a significantly long leader to get it away from the weight and that whole rig would not only be a tangling mess, but create significant wind resistance that would not allo...

Re: Salmon Burgers

Good to know rac...thanks. I make salmon burgers out of Pink salmon (or any left over salmon in the freezer that's in need of use). Will bake it, flake it, and vacuum seal it by the pound, then can thaw a pouch and mix it like one would crab cakes before grilling, broiling or pan frying. They're goo...

Re: Surfcasting seattle area

Sorry, but in the Seattle Area it's not great. Mainly Starry flounder, dogfish (sand shark), and bullheads (sculpin). On occasion you can get a better species, like Cabezon or Lingcod. However, there are some strict regulation that goes along with the more sought after fish. You cannot legally targe...

Re: Steelhead Hook regulations

After Nov. 30, the Sky doesn’t have any regulations against barbed hooks or single point hooks. In fact, there is no regulation against barbed hooks on the Sky in general. The Snoqualmie has a barbless requirement (selective gear rules) up until Nov. 30. Therefore, after that date, you can use a dro...

You can fish any time, but I was always led to believe fishing after a high water event when the river is dropping is best. Read up on water clarity and where fish hold to learn about fishing in various conditions.

5 lbs is pretty small. Would be easy to make. Thought about pouring your own?

And are you stuck on a pyramid? You can get small claw anchors pretty cheap on Amazon. I bought a collapsible 3 lber for my kayak.

Re: Coho salmon. Pierced the gallbladder?

Sounds like it. I've done it a few times. Although I try to avoid it, it doesn't seem to taint the flavor as the volume is pretty small. Rinse or dry off any you see.
However, if you cure any roe, don't let it come into contact with that.

Re: Kayak point pier question.

If it's the same Kayak Point I'm familiar with, then you'll not find catfish there. That's a saltwater environment, so Starry Flounder, sand dabs, rat fish, and Dogfish (sand shark) will be your primary catches, as well as salmon during certain times of the year (when open). If you're looking for fr...

Re: Suitable Shore Fishing Rod?

Agreed on above points, and with the reel being a limitation. The rod should cast a 3" Buzz Bomb a good enough distance though. I've got an 8'6" MH bait caster (1/2oz-1oz) that will wing the 2.5" and 3" quite a good distance, but it's paired with a Abu Garcia 6601c4 (30# braid). I still prefer a lon...
