2018 Edmonds Derby results.

The winning fish wasn't really that big...10.1 pounds. '18 Trophy tried to get me to go but as it turned out I couldn't go anyway. My Daughter and her husband went somewhere and we had to babysit our two grandkids (3&6) all weekend, which we don't get to do that often. Ray, did you go and how did yo...

Re: Wall mounted rod holder options, or DIY?

At last count, I have around 12 salmon, steelhead, trout and bottom fishing rods. I hang them on hooks screwed into the ceiling of my garage. Since I park my Seahawk in the garage most of the rods are easy to reach, just get in the boat or stand on the trailer fenders. Works pretty good, the rods ar...

Re: Local Boat Shop Suggestions?

Ray is right. Harbor is good. They've done a fair amount of work for me. I'm not an electrician. I did all the mounting but they did the wiring on my 2005 18' Seahawk for my fishfinder, charting GPS, VHF and Scotty electric DRs. That was all done 12 -13 years ago and it all still works well.

Re: Puget Sound salmon season

I've been fishing for Silvers in Puget Sound since I moved here in 1980. I've never seen this many fish this early. I don't usually get ocean silvers until 9/5 or so. But we started fishing for Silvers last week on Tuesday we got 3, Thurs we got 2 but this week it exploded, 3 day limits for two guys...

Re: Puget Sound salmon season

Oh well, this morning was good. My friend Terry and didn't get the lines out until 7AM. But we had our 4 by 8AM, between Edmonds and the Oil Docks. Decent ocean fish 6-7 pounds. My boat will spend the night at the dock in the water and I'll be out there again tomorrow. 30-40 feet, got fish on a gree...

Re: Puget Sound salmon season

The Silvers are there but not in any numbers yet. Today I went out with my friend Terry. We started out in 10 around 6:30 but it was dead. So about 8 we ran up to the Shipwreck. I got a nice 8 pound male (on the scale) 5 minutes after we got there. Fished another 2 1/2 hours and didnt get another st...

Re: Puget Sound salmon season

My friend Terry and I fished 10 around Edmonds today in my boat and we got 3, two 6-7 pounds prob ocean fish and one 4 pounds that was local. Our bite was between 9 and 10AM. About 40 boats on the water between Edmonds and the oil docks. Seems to be some ocean fish trickling in. Still pretty early.

Re: Puget Sound salmon season

Thank you for the report. In my experience, its still early. In my fishing records over the last 10 years, the earliest I ever got ocean Silvers in Puget Sound was Sept 2nd. For me its usually the first week of Sept.

Re: Puget Sound Coho regs for this season - clip vrs. unclipped...

Good call! I guess the WDFW just doesn't trust us to be honest! Think I'll spend most of time fishing in 8-2 or 10. Probably 10 since I keep my boat at Edmonds. I haven't been out for Silvers yet. Fishchecker reports haven't been much. Even CQ and PA haven't shown much on those reports.

Re: Puget Sound Coho regs for this season - clip vrs. unclipped...

I'm not sure how a clumsy rule like this is even enforceable. But if I have an unmarked fish in my boat caught in either 8-2 or 10, I don't think I would fish in 9.

Re: Puget Sound salmon season

When the ocean fish show up, further out is usually better. Keep a fast troll, usually 3mph or better.

Re: Puget Sound salmon season

I've always launched at Everett. But I've gone out with my buddy and we launched at Shilshole and no problems, other than crowded and not many lights so pretty dark before sunrise. He launches there all the time and has no problems. He just has a 2 wheel drive van.

Re: Puget Sound salmon season

MA 10 closes to Chinooks 12:01 AM on the 17th, in other words, it is closed starting tomorrow. I'm happy, went out 11 times and got 11 hatchery Chinooks in the boat and one wild. Looking forward to Silvers now.

Re: Puget Sound salmon season

My childhood friend came up from Portland this week to fish Chinooks. Wednesday we hit Kingston and I got a 15 pounder ( on the scale) and Mike had a hard strike but it didn't stick. I wanted Mike to take the fish but it hit the rod I usually fish and he thought I should take it and after arguing fo...

I have two Penn Manual downriggers and I'll sell one or both. Full cable, extended boom, swivel base, all the bells and whistles, cash only. I'll have to think about the price if you are interested.

Re: Puget Sound salmon season

I fished Kingston on Tues with my friend Terry. I got an 18 at 6:15 and about 7 Terry got a 12, both around tide change. We were on the outside edge of the bar in 100-110 FOW. Had things to do so I didn't go out the last two days but Terry and I are going tomorrow. Flasher, purple haze squid with an...

Re: Puget Sound salmon season

I have two downriggers. If I have three rods, I'll put out a plug cut or a Brads cut plug on a light 2 oz banana, but very shallow and mostly for Silvers. If you put out a free rod, do not put it down where it might foul on your downrigger line or cable. That will create a huge mess if the two lines...

Re: Puget Sound salmon season

Cool! Obviously, 9 is toast. 10 should have quite a ways to go. I fished around the Oil Docks today with my son in law and grandson, lost one 9-10 at the boat, but that was it. In the same place I released a wild fish yesterday. Slow today, I never saw a net. Talked to 4-5 guys in different boats at...
