Re: Sonar interpretation?
I'd say that bright circle at the end of that shadow is a post that happens to be pointed directly at the boat, thus you can see only the end. Thats what I thought at first, but if the post was pointed directly at the boat/transducer, it wouldnt have a shadow. Just like the sun at noon on...

Re: On the lake this coming weekend
I have hit Washington a number of times fot Cutts this year when it was below 40. Have not been out for a few weeks as I was catching too many Salmonoids with his my 'usual' presentation. Changed it up but got then got sick, did other hobbies, didn't feel like getting cold, boat show, bla, bla, bla....

Re: Sonar interpretation?
I enjoy some math but just had a flash of me in a bouncing boat in pouring rain squinting at a screen and trying to figure out where the fish actually are... I am pretty sure I will do some math but will stop when I get 'used' to knowing 'about' where stuff is.

Re: Sonar interpretation?
Even though I knew about the shadows before this, the diagrams still help. Or irritate me, I am not sure which... Like was said, spend the money and you STILL don't really know exactly where they are. Better, but not exactly.

Re: Sonar interpretation?
You are more likely to see things like that hole on downview, but it all depends on the size of the hole vrs the beam widths on downview. Its a little more complex than it might seem. And yes, you will see a creek bed more easily if you hit it at 90 degrees, but again - size matters [woot] :) Im ab...

Re: Rod building kit
At one point I dried out some black bamboo to make poles out of then bagged the idea. Still might at some point... The idea of building a rod 'specific' to my wants is still appealing. It seems like I can't get exactly what I want in one unless I have one built. The problem is, at least in the last ...

Re: Sonar interpretation?
Huh. For a minute there I thought I was looking at circumcised vs. uncircumcised pictures... [blink] [biggrin] Wound up reading a detailed article (more like a technical manual) about military sonar tonight at work kind of by accident. It was of more interest because of this thread. Neat stuff. Keep...

Re: Sonar interpretation?
Now I know why I catch fish when there are none showing on my screen!!!!! This. Makes perfect sense now. I always presumed it was just because my line was so far back they swam into the area after I went past. Now I know it could be that or they were sitting there the whole time and my old crappy w...

Re: Sonar interpretation?
This is very interesting. Explained this way it is understandable how you could be mistaken where the fish are. I would wonder, depending on how far apart the fish are, if in 'catching' of them it would make that much difference? If the fish are sensing the vibration of a lure or flasher, or seeing ...

I have decided on getting the Panoptix 31 forward scan and have put some toys up for sale to offset the cost.
My question is:
If I tip the adjustable trolling motor mount straight down, what will I be seeing? Kind of goes with the other 'tipping' questions...

I broke through the ice in E Wa after a freeze and water level drop and refreeze. Dropped a good two feet before touching down and stopping on the ice below. Quite a surprise! Made me more careful about going out on it.

If you want to make something fiberglass I may be able to help. I am by SeaTac Airport between Seattle and Tacoma. I also have phenolic sheet.
