Re: Planning A Salmon Trip
To clarify, there is no scheduled opening for salmon on the Skagit this fall. The river closes on July 16 and doesn't reopen until December. No coho or pink fishing, period.

Re: Skagit Sockeye!
Numbers on the skagit are not looking that great as of now of course that could change any moment but on contrary lake washington seems to be doing ok. Hope that keeps up and gets better as we could get a fishery there! Keep them fingers crossed I've definitely seen more fish caught this year than ...

Missing Camper at Baker Lake
A reminder to us all to be careful up there. I know we lost a fisherman up there last year as well.

Here are the proposed rules to change, but no mention of how they would be changed: Title of rule and other identifying information: (Describe Subject) Changes to WDFW’s Puget Sound’s recreational salmon fishing rules resulting from stakeholder recommendations made during North of Falcon meetings: W...

Re: Skagit Sockeye!
I'll give a report here since I didn't actually fish. I knew I couldn't go early since I didn't bother to pick up any sand shrimp the day before. Went to the train bridge around 7:30 to check it out and spoke with a friend who said nothing had been caught there yet. Hung around and watched for 30 mi...

2017 Salmon Seasons
Not final yet, as far as I can tell, but the proposed seasons are here: http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/northfalcon/ As expected, the Skagit and Stilly are closed for Coho and Pinks, but otherwise the river situation looks to be pretty normal. Hopefully the regulations are finalized before the June 11 pr...

Oh no! What a disaster! How will you deal with the sleepless nights waiting for the fish to come in? Maybe just a few more jigs . . .

Re: Garage Saling/buying used fishing tackle
If you ever see or hear of a jaded wife/ex-wife garage sale, run, don't walk. They are the unicorns of garage sales. I have seen one that included a small boat that she just wanted "gone". Craigslist will occasionally have such deals as well, but they are really hard to catch fast enough. You can se...

Re: Opening Weekend!
I have noticed that our standard stockers are bigger up here (Whatcom County) than everyone else's. Ours average .625 pounds, while everywhere else is .5 pounds or smaller. I got one jumbo last year on opening day, but none after that, and none the year before that or the year before that. I think i...

Re: Opening Weekend!
I always take my daughter to Padden. That lake has room for plenty of people, nearly the entire shoreline is accessible. In previous years, Toad would get more jumbos than Padden, but this year I see there are no jumbos or triploids planted in the county! If you want to avoid the worst crowds, head ...

If you are going soon, I can see why you are leaning toward the east side -early May is still pretty chilly for camping with kids in western WA.

Re: Camping/Trout Fishing Lake for Family
Silver Lake in Whatcom County has lots of camping options (RV hookups, tent pads, cabins), boat rentals of all kinds, and plenty of fishing from shore as well. It is heavily stocked with trout and although it opens this Saturday with all the other lowland lakes, fishing stays good well into June as ...

Re: Suggestions for 10 yr old beginners dying to catch a fis
Pine Lake fishing pier up on the Sammamish Plateau. Will be crowded, but the lake opens next weekend for trout and (last Saturday of April) for trout and you'll be all but guaranteed to catch fish. Fourth Saturday in April - not the last Saturday this year! April 22 is opening day, April 29 is the ...

Re: Latest info not looking like sunshine and roses......
If you go regularly, it is worth getting a Nexus pass or enhanced driver's license. The enhanced driver's license lets you use the Nexus lane when returning through the Sumas crossing on the weekends. This can save an hour or more when returning on weekend afternoons. Especially if you are fishing o...
