Re: DogFish Shark A hidden Gem ...Whats your take?
Just being curious I searched Dogfish. There is an article back in 2005 talking about a decrease in Dogfish in Puget Sound due to increased coml fishing. But still not exactly scarce with an estimated 1.7 million of the things in Puget Sound back then. I did hear rumors once that fish cops have give...

Re: Tribes now netting Lake Washington proper
Off course the nets are back in. Just read the LOAF, the link is above, page 25. In Lake Washington the LOAF says the tribes can start fishing week 40 (week beginning 9/25) and keep fishing all the way through week 47 (w/b 11/13) and they can fish 5 days a week during that period if they want to! Th...

Re: Tribes now netting Lake Washington proper
If you look at the LOAF, its pretty obvious what happened. Just a few moths ago, the WDFW and the tribes were in a big shootout. The WDFW wanted to allow a low quota summer Chinook rec fishery in the Straight and MA 9. But the tribes, mostly the Muks, said no so the WDFW had to throw them a bone. Th...

Re: Tribes now netting Lake Washington proper
There is a tribal net schedule but for some reason it doesn't cover Puget Sound fisheries.

Re: Tribes now netting Lake Washington proper
LOAF page 25. The way I read it the tribes can start fishing week 40 (week beginning 9/25) and keep fishing through week 47 (w/b 11/13) and they can fish 5 days a week during that period. Since they cant fish the salt (yet) they will prob concentrate on Lake Wa. The gill nets don't get all the fish ...

Re: Tribes now netting Lake Washington proper
Page 25 of LOAF (List of Agreed Fisheries) allows treaty netting if the Coho count goes over 10,000 into Lake Wa, which it is has. LOAF is an annual NOF doc that specifies the allowed fisheries for commercial and rec. I suspect the tribes are drooling to get a shot at the salt too, but it is hard to...

Re: How to package salmon for US border crossing?
For BC the one square inch thing is for bottomfish including Halibut. For salmon its leave a fin on one of the fillets. I'm amazed the border folks wanted to check somebodies coolers. At the BC border we've never been checked coming home, nor have I ever seen anyone else with boats get checked. Thei...

Re: How to package salmon for US border crossing?
I've taken my own boat up to Ucluelet 15-16 times starting in 1991and another 4-5 times at fly in guided resorts. Brought back lots and lots of salmon and Hallies. I've never been checked at the border, not even once. There is a bunch of nonsense about transporting your catch in the regs, but, in my...

Re: DogFish Shark A hidden Gem ...Whats your take?
I've heard that English fish an chips is all dogfish. Makes sense considering everything else the Brits eat is just warmed over garbage. For the Brits no taste buds goes along with bad teeth! I used to sell millions of pounds of them to European buyers. They just eat 'em up. For me they're absolutel...

Re: Lake Wa Coho!!
I was just going to post pretty much the same news. I stopped by the Kenmore launch around 1:00. There was a fish checker there and he said 24 boats, 12 fish. I was also told one boat got 3 and also heard he had the DRs at 130 feet. Deep makes sense since the Lake is prob pretty warm for salmon and ...

Re: Longview Bridge
Actually, trolling inside the mouth of the Cow is pretty mild. Trolling in 10-20 feet of water, 4-5 oz, on a slider with a spinner, not a combat fishery at all, calm water. A lot of URBs and migrating Silvers duck in there for the cool water from the Cow. Even up towards the Cow bridge can be good o...

Re: Lake Wa Coho!!
In my personal experience, I've never done well for Silvers in freshwater. I usually run into lock jaw fish. I did do pretty well trolling the Sno a few years ago but we had to share a lot of fish with seals. I assume they are monitoring the S rivers. Seems like if those runs are looking OK they cou...

Re: Lake Wa Coho!!
Wonderful. I'm still hoping they open the salt. I keep hearing there are lots of Silvers out there. In July I was over at Sekiu... we ran over to Neah and fished Tatoosh and there were lots of Silvers around, not many Nooks though. But opening the salt to us would prob take another battle with our N...

Re: Longview Bridge
Absolutely. In Sept the water is warm, so migrating Chinooks are deep, 40 feet or so where the wtr is colder. The tide flow on an outgoing tide is very strong. You need a specialized rocker style anchor with 4-5 feet of chain. As Larry said you also need the large buoy system to get the anchor in. T...

Re: Area 8-1 questions
I reread some earlier comments. I didn't realize you are in a small boat. Your biggest issue is safety. I would recommend you both buy inflatable life preservers and use them. Shoot, I have a Seahawk and I always wear one. Check the on line marine forecast and if they are talking more than 15 kt win...

Re: Area 8-1 questions
I've been fishing Blackmouth in 8-2 (Saratoga Passage) since the 1980's. Used to be pretty good in the winter but kind of slowed down the last few years. But last winter was better. Blackmouth (feeder Chinooks) are a fish created for sports fishing. They are raised in hatcheries and then kept in sal...

Re: fly fishing for coho?
I know, bummer. Except for the 4 years I lived in Billings and the 5 I lived in Spokane, this is the first Fall for 60 years that I haven't fished for Coho. I may try the MA 12 Coho fishery when it opens on 10/1, although I have no idea where to go or launch.

Re: fly fishing for coho?
Better read the regs. I think it is not just "closed to retention" of Coho, it is closed to salmon fishing everywhere, except for Hood Canal, after 10/1 and only south of the Hood Canal bridge.
