Replacing boat seats
Hi all. I have a 16 ft Beachcraft I bought from the harbor master in Des Moines recently and I want to take out the factory original back to back seats and replace them with two pedestal mounted seats in front for more comfort but mostly to gain some real estate to walk around and play a fish. Has a...

Re: Manual Downrigger survey
Found a Penn Fathom master 600 on CL for $125 spooled with braided spectra line, comes with mounting plate and swivel base. That's gonna be my project for the weekend. Again thanks to everyone for all the great advice.

Re: Anybody fishing Sammamish this weekend?
Good to know I will steer clear of Sammamish for now, nobody wants that kok fishery to recover more than me. Sounds like another pontoon weekend for me.

Re: Manual Downrigger survey
Thanks a million everyone I really appreciate the input. I had pretty much already decided to go with braid, I have no interest in a blackbox system I would much rather spend those Benjamins on gps and sonar equipment.

Re: Manual Downrigger survey
While on this subject please comment on wire -vs- braid. I fish out of an aluminum boat and cannot afford a black box so I am planning on spooling my rigger with braid, if nothing else it will be quieter than that annoying whine of a wire downrigger cable.

Anybody fishing Sammamish this weekend?
I been hitting Blackmans last couple of weeks figuring the weather would break a little bit. Can't take it one more weekend I gotta go fire up the Suzuki and do some trolling on Sunday, I hope it does snow, I never caught a quality cut in a snow storm before lol.

Re: Manual Downrigger survey
Now that you mention it Toni I just remembered my Grandfather had a Walker on his boat many years ago, he loved it. It was just a coil of I think aluminum tubing that straitened out to the pulley, and center retrieve. I never used it I was too young but I remember it on his boat.

Re: Manual Downrigger survey
Thanks edge, I was at Sportco talking to a smart old fella there that I trust and he is the one told me about the Scotty breaking down a lot, honestly I have never heard a Scotty owner say they have to buy parts and repair their unit often if at all.

Re: Manual Downrigger survey
That is interesting, I have a friend had an old Walker on his boat was a nice little downrigger, kind of a knucklebuster if you haven't used one before but once you bonded with it, it worked nice.

Re: Lake Cassidy - My Worthy Challenge - need bassin advice!
A mop jig really slow has been working for me, not all the time mind you I get skunked too. And I have not been on Cassidy this year but a brown MJ has worked for me there in the past this time of year. Good luck I plan to pay Cassidy a visit in the next week or two myself.

Manual Downrigger survey
I have been told Scotty downriggers are functionally better but break down more than Penn riggers do. That is why there is so many replacement parts for Scottys at the sporting goods store. Penns are more simplistic and not as user friendly but never break down. I have operated lots of downriggers o...

Re: 15 1/2 ft Smoker Craft Alaskan Pro, motor and trailer.
One of the other good things about a boat this size is it is roomy, and because it is under 16 ft avoids a lot of extra special coast guard requirements.

Re: 15 1/2 ft Smoker Craft Alaskan Pro, motor and trailer.
I am conflicted I really like the smoker craft boat and the motor runs like it just came out of the crate, but I am getting older and feel the need for a little more comfort and freeboard when I am winter fishing ha ha.

Re: Stolen propery and breakins
I could be wrong but if I owned a motor of that year size and model last thing I would do with it is take it to a scrap yard, I would likely part it out to maximize possible income. And then only if it was so internally damaged that repairing it would be more than the cost of replacing the motor all...

Re: Stolen propery and breakins
If the owner of the motor recorded the serial # and then reported the SN to the police when they reported it stolen, the police then automatically put that SN out to a data base to all marine repair shops. All reputable mechanics and shops check the motor model and SN to make sure they are ordering ...

Re: Stolen propery and breakins
I would be very careful if the seller has no paperwork of any kind, service receipts, a bill of sale something. The missing serial # would be a deal breaker for me because if it turns out the motor was stolen, if and when the police show up they confiscate it and you will be without a motor and the ...
