Fourth Of July Lake

Fourth of July lake opened for fishing today, but has it frozen over, or does it have any open water? ( Might hit it this weekend if it does have open water. )

Re: Cutts on Sammamish -- from the bank?

Ive tried fishing for cutts on lake wa from the shore a few times and the only problem is the freakin perch #-o . If you plunk worms off the bottom you'll get 50 perch before you get a cutt. Ive tried roe but cant keep the sculpin off. Suspending bait 20-30 feet below a slip bobber might work bette...

Re: Cutts on Sammamish -- from the bank?

Wow, thanks for all the responses, everybody ( both here and via PM ) In regards to those docks AMX was referencing, I came across a web page for a 'new' park on the NE side of Sammamish called Sammamish Landing. The accompanying text said that they were going to have docks at that park, but that th...

Cutts on Sammamish -- from the bank?

In the 'latest reports' section I've been seeing one post after another about the hot Cutthroat bite on Lake Sammamish right now, and I have a ( probably dumb ) question. Do you absolutely need to have a boat to target the Sammamish cutts, or is it possible to catch them off the bank? Thanks in adva...

Re: What's Your Favorite Lake?

No contest....Wickiup Reservoir, Oregon

It has kokes in the 15"-16" class, and I caught my personal best Brown out of Wick, two years ago. The first time I fished there, I got the biggest trout I ever caught off the bank, "23 'Bow

Eagle Cliffs, Lewis River?

Can someone fill me in on the details of this place? I keep hearing folks rave about it, that it's a very pretty spot, and opens for the first time this year on Saturday, but that's ALL I know.

What's the deal? Thanks in advance, NBS

Westslope Cutts -- Where to Find 'Em?

I may be looking for something that doesn't exist here, but...

I'm planning to head out again next week, and thought I'd like to target Westslope Cutthroats. Are there any drive-in lakes, not a super-hellacious distance from Portland that have them?

RE:Rufus Woods "fisherman" loses boat for overlimit.

:-({|= To this guy. How much would you be willing to be that he was fishing with bait too? This really goes beyond the pale, as far as I'm concerned. 13 fish is way over the limit on ANY Lake, much less one with a two fish max. And my guess is also that the limit rules are VERY prominently posted at...

Something that might be worth trying on Rufus Woods

Some whiles back, a member here posted a report on Rufus Woods, in which he described knocking 'em dead with what he called a, 'pellet fly'. And then the other day, I spotted this thread on the Ifish.net message board. Looks like something that might work quite well on Rufus ( Or Beaver Lake ) http:...

[quote="Anglinarcher"]Well done. Did you get a less grainy picture you could e-mail me? I would love to have one for my records. I also caught an Apache Trout, but I was very young and did not get a picture. In my day (~1965), you had to have an invite to fish for them]Regrettably, no...that's the b...

RE:Okay...can you identify this one?

Okay, I'll fess up. It's an Apache Trout, ( http://www.cooperativeconservationamerica.org/viewproject.asp?pid=136 ) Caught out of Hurricane Lake, on the White Mountain Apache Reservation, back in '93 The orange-ish fins come from the fact that this particular trout was getting her spawning colors on.

Could that be a Rainbow/Coastal Cutt cross...rather than a Rainbow/Westslope Cutt Cross? Even pure Coastal Cutts look a lot like 'Bows, y'know.

Look for the fat guy in the white, inflatable with the Boston Whaler logo, and driving the beat-up white Toyota Pick-Up.

( This is tentative, depending on the overnight weather in the Oregon Cascades. )

RE:Which method for fall/winter fishing for trout?

I prefer floating bait off the bottom to dangling it under a bobber; fish don't feel as much resistance with a sliding sinker rig, when they take the bait. Here's a couple more suggestions in that regard. 1. Use the lightest leader, and smallest hook that you can get away with. Depending on the fish...
