Pend Oreille Winter Fishing

The launch at the rotary park in Oldtown for the Pend Oreille River is still open and I was wondering if anyone ever does much fishing during the winter on the river and what methods and species they have done well with. Of course if it ever warms up and becomes spring I will be targeting the pike, ...

RE:E. Washington ice fishing

I moved up to Newport about 2.5 years ago and ice fished eloika the last two winters. Both years the ice was about 10-12 inches thick by mid jan when bird season got over and I started fishing again. I have heard lots of fish stories about people bringing home buckets of lunker perch but I never had...

pend oreille walleye

Anyone know if there is enough walleye in the Pend Oreille river to make it worth fishing for? Any hints as to where said walleye may be hiding? I have heard rumors of walleye being in there but nothing from a reliable source. If anyone cares the river is up a bit high and moving a bit fast while th...

RE:Visiting Newport area 4th of July

Ashenfelter bay shouldnt be too weedy by the 4th, I would think, seeing as it has been pretty cold up here all spring, so you may be able to fish it from shore. I was also going to suggest going to Marshall to rent a boat and catch cutthroats, I haven't fished Marshall yet but I have heard good thin...

RE:Pend Oreille Pike

Well, I didn't make it out on to the river this weekend. The 4-5" of snow we got on Sat. put a damper on my plans. Hopefully next weekend will be a little nicer.

Pend Oreille Pike

I am planning on fishing the Pend Oreille River this weekend for some pike. I have never fished for pike as I have never lived close to any pike waters until I moved to Newport two years ago. My understanding is you use oversized bass baits with a steel leader and hit the shallow sloughs. Does anyon...

RE:Best lakes for carp and tench?

I looked it up in my map book and it is Babcock Ridge Lake, Crater Lake is just west of it. But you are correct, both have carp. I have also heard that Crater has some nice walleye, but I never caught any myself.

RE:Best lakes for carp and tench?

ANY body of water that is connected to the irrigation canals in the Columbia Basin will have good carp action. But specifically Long Lake has a small mud flat on the northeast end, any of the mud flats on the north end of Scooteny Reservoir. Also the Winchester Wasteway where it crosses road 5 near ...

Try the marina at coulee city, just look for the crowds and bully your way in for some fast paced perch fishing, usually. Two years ago when I lived in Quincy I would regurlary make the drive to catch my 25 perch, many times in under 2 hours. If you are really selective and only want the bigguns you...

Unfortunately the areas I have hunted in years past haven't produced either. I grew up hunting the clockum area north of ellensburg and we ran into elk quite often and despite our lack of skill managed to get an odd elk occasionally. Recently they changed the rules there to spike only so we moved to...

RE:For anyone who has bought a boat in Idaho

I went through the exact same thing a few months ago! I bought a boat from a fella in ID and when I went to register the boat and trailer they told me that the boat was reported stolen, not the trailer because they were able to give me registration and liscence plate for that. So I had to have the p...

RE:Newcomer Questions

Don't feel bad about feeling "green" there is probably too many lures and gadgits out there designed to fool fish. The tried and true worm on a hook seldom fails. I moved from Quincy to NE washington last year and if you want wind look no farther than the columbia river from cresent bar to vantage. ...

I graduated in 2005, also in engineering, and after I got the partying out of my system I started hitting the snake from wawaiwai park up river to clarkston from the bank, some days I caught a lot of little bass some days not so much. There is a grip of smallies in that reservoir though, I have even...

I hate to sound like a real greenhorn but I don't have much experience fishing for macks. Are downriggers nessesary to get down that deep? Do the macks and burbot bite year round or should I save my efforts for late fall? Thanks for the info, it is much appreciated.

I moved to Newport last fall and have wanted to fish that lake for some time. Is lake trout and burbot the main attractions there or is there more likely prospects in that lake?
