Re: Rod/Reel for Salmon Fishing on WA Rivers
I believe it is a Shimano Syncopate 2500. Has 6lb test on it so I may need to re-spool the reel with something a bit stronger? If my current gear sounds suitable for the pinks i'll just roll with that and continue to reference this thread for building a larger rod/reel when targeting bigger Salmon ...

Re: Rod/Reel for Salmon Fishing on WA Rivers
Yes, that will work just fine. What size trout reel? That might be sufficient too. A 2500 series will work just fine most of the time. My Shimano Symetre and Saros 3000s are both on 2500 frames. The drag is a little stronger and the spool a little larger, but that's all. Gearing is the same. Landed ...

Re: Rod/Reel for Salmon Fishing on WA Rivers
I've moved over to braid for everything. I like it's small diameter and sensitivity. I use 30# PowerPro, either original or super8slick. The original works fine on my spinning rods. It has many advantages, but also takes some getting used to. Almost all knots can be worked out with patience, so virt...

Re: Rod/Reel for Salmon Fishing on WA Rivers
First, what type of rod/reel? spinning or casting? For the rod there are lots of options around or under $100. I recommend a rod 8'-10' in length with a medium or light rating. You'll get all sorts of opinions on brands, but look at brands such as Okuma, Shimano, Cabela's, etc. I have a Lamiglas X11...

I found this odd too. Really expected the rules to change for the green this season in accordance with the other river and MA changes.spokey9 wrote:I didn't see any adjustments to the daily limit for pinks this season.

Re: Pen-Tac B.C. Steel Spoons: Where are they?
You might check with 3 Rivers Marine in Woodinville or Sportsman's Warehouse in Federal Way. The Sportsman's Warehouse in the TriCities still carries them, but I hear you on those getting hard to find. A friend of mine now orders in bulk, so we'all split an order now and again. The 2/5 silver is har...

Re: Looking for advice on River fishing. New and dad wants to fish.
That'll be a good time for river fishing, guide or not. Knowing your general location will help with pointing you to rivers in your area and recommendations for places to go. A guide of course would cover everything, so hope you find a good one. If not, there are plenty of resources here to help get...

This is true. You may find a few stragglers, but salmon berries are an early summer fruit.Jakefish wrote:You're at least a month too late. They were ripe along the Marblemount hatchery back in mid-June to early July.

Re: Good King County Summer Fisheries
Does it have to be trout and kokanee? Lake Washington and Sammanish perch should be easy to catch in late summer, with a decreased chance of skunking the family. Has the added benefit of seeing the houses of the rich and famous and/or close up of Seahawks training facility. Probably a bit early but...

Sounds like a short. Hard to guess where without manually troubleshooting. Any chance at all one of the wires was accidentally swapped during your LED change? Or could the new LED lights be wired differently than the old ones?

I found out about those a few years ago when researching alternatives to Buzz Bombs for Humpies. Learned they were not available locally, but it's a cool lure. Seems like a cross between a Buzz Bomb and a casting spoon.

Re: Advice on shore fishing Lake Sammamish
As you may know, Lake Sammamish contains trout, kokanee, bass, perch, sunfish, carp, small catfish, pikeminow, and a couple other odd species of fish as well as salmon during certain times of the year. Trout, bass, and perch seem to be the main targets of most sportsmen. As you stated, many troll fo...

Re: Best Crab Pots
Whats a good price for the square fold up traps? Been looking at the local sports stores... 50-60 bucks? ~$20 for the pot and an additional $15-20 for float and rope. (All bought separately) To buy the whole thing set up for you will probably be about $50. If you go that route though try to find on...

I got mine fall of 2009. Cabala's GII stocking foot. Treated 4 pinholes along the inner seam of the thighs two years ago with Aquaseal, but otherwise still working well. Just replaced my boots last Christmas (also Cabela's).

Re: Need advice re: Egg Loops
Can you secure yarn with a snell knot? I looked at your pic and Im not sure I understand where the yarn would go. A snell knot and an egg loop will have a similar place to attach yarn where the leader from the knot (tied around the shank of the hook) passes through the eye of the hook. By pulling a...

Re: Need advice re: Egg Loops
Egg loop knots are always incorporated as part of the leader. It's typical to make your leader on the longer side and then cut it down to your desired length on the water. I usually make mine 3'-4' long and adjust accordingly. From your description, it sounds like you'd rather have yarnie type flies...

Re: Pros and Cons of OverPowering a Boat
Those Highlakers are a bit on the heavy side being fiberglass, right? However, I agree that a properly setup 15-20hp outboard shouldn't have a problem getting it up on plane. Aside from the prop pitch, I've always liked the added performance a hydrofoil fun adds. My brother added a doel-fin to his 1...

Re: Fish Finder troubleshooting
Good info in that thread Tom referenced. Probably will answer your questions. Also, details on where you're testing this would help too. i.e. fresh water, salt water, depth, fish species expected to be around, etc. I found that in fresh water lakes that are less than 20 feet then I usually don't see...
