Re: Tribes now netting Lake Washington proper

Saw the nets out there again this morning... Checked with my buddy and apparently this opener runs for FIVE DAYS. Started Sunday, ends Thursday. There seem to be no limits on the netting. Reminds me of the old phrase "The beatings will continue until morale improves".

Re: Tribes now netting Lake Washington proper

I learned about the tribal fishing requests by following these instructions:

Re: Tribes now netting Lake Washington proper

Guess what? They're returning, and for two straight days this time. Setting Tuesday @6pm, and will fish non-stop until Thursday at 10am. Sorry, this is insane. Everyone who thinks we're "co-operatively" managing this resource is an apologist. We, and they, know they've taken vastly more fish than sp...

Re: Tribes now netting Lake Washington proper

Chart on WDFW ballard locks count says 17.5K thru the 25th, figure 500 per day after that and you're looking at 20K. I'm reasonably confident the Suquamish tribe has netted another 5K+ in front of the locks so a 25K run is certainly possible at this point. Our "half" would be something like 10 thous...

Re: Tribes now netting Lake Washington proper

BarChaser: Interesting indeed. That said, it's hard to feel like there is real "cooperative management" going on in this fishery in any way. Consider that the tribes have 4 miles of narrow/private fishery in the cut, and we have access to the lake only. Their harvest #'s have not been shared, but da...

Re: Tribes now netting Lake Washington proper

I'm trying to get the pics from my buddy, but he said seven distinct boats fishing tonight -- hunts point to moss bay, covering virtually all the water.

Tribes now netting Lake Washington proper

Report from a buddy out there that 1 boat is setting up, and as many as 4 others are en-route. An unintended consequence of sharing fishing reports, with detailed locations of schools and waypoints, is that ANYONE (including Tribal Fishermen) can read them. Please at least consider that when/if you ...

RE:Salmon Fishing near Edmonds?

It's completely reasonable, and if you poke around a bit I'm sure you'll find someone. My suggestions-- don't offer snacks and beer first, offer GAS MONEY, that seems like especially these days a primary concern. Also, remember that mooching vs. trolling for salmon this time of year are both effecti...

RE:Mutiny Bay/Useless Bay Halibut

I might shoot up there -- work and family need to be sorted out but it could happen... KK, I'll drop you a note if it works out... I expect this to be an excellent presentation, and CROWDED too...

If I can't make it, I'll have to debrief with you sometime this weekend, Arima style (grin).

RE:Mutiny Bay/Useless Bay Halibut

I'm new to that area, but we'll be putting some time out there the second week... The counsel I've gotten is that the tide swings the first week (first couple days in particular, including tomorrow) are too big for good fishing.... Since I'm a noob at this, I'm trusting the advice (grin)

RE:Picnic Point Ponds

(sorry for the semi-hijack of the thread)

KK -- those photos of Radar lake are HILARIOUS -- I love how they built the turnarounds at the end (complete with islands in the middle) so you can turn the boat at speed and keep the skiier behind you.

Don't Forget -- RENEW your license!

Friendly reminder that your old license will expire tonight! (Unless of course you're young and lucky enough not to need one for the fishing you do!)

RE:Fishing with a Bobber

We fish off a dock in LkWa and the kids make a killing with bobbers & a bit of worm. To make the combo perfect, bring along a huge cooler and fill it with water while you're fishing. Then take the fish you catch and let them swim in the "aquarium". Soon the kids will stop watching the bobbers and st...

RE:Lingcod on westport charters

Oh, and three things to be prepared for... 1. At least on the Halibut trip (not sure on a bottomfishing trip) everything was filleted and split across the whole boat. There was no "that's my ling cod" type of tags or anything. Again I'm not saying how this will go since it's a pure bottomfishing tri...

RE:Lingcod on westport charters

I was on the Hula Girl last year for a halibut trip. The skipper and deck-hand are both good guys (though their names escape me).... After our 30 minute halibut limit (as other posters have already said, very true), we hit some rockfish/ling holes on the way home and did quite well. I don't remember...

Are you fishing from a BOAT or from the BANK? The fishery changes a ton based on the water temperature. The fish are now in about 30' of water, and will be moving shallow over the next 60 days. If from the bank, then I'd suggest the plentiful fishing opportunities if you explore the arboretum/montla...

My 2c is a little different -- don't for a second underestimate how awesome the opportunity that school presents you is. Sure we'd all rather be fishing than doing homework, but school is the KEY. Take college for example... You can remake your life into virtually ANYTHING in 4 years. You can pass t...

+1 to what Kuttkilla said. Exactly right.

Except the sea lion is now the top predator in the lake (grin).
