Re: Anyone want to fish American Lake?
Until you find someone to go with you, go to the map section and print out a contour map of the lake. This should help you get familiar with the depths.

Re: Anyone try scotty laketroller?
My first downrigger was the laketroller. Finances dictated the choice, $59 at Auburn Sports. It is a one-foot-per turn with 100 feet of cable (you are the line counter). It pulled a lot of kokanee out of American Lake. After finding a 1050 at Sports Authority on clearance for $99, I moved up, but st...

Steelhead seminar
I didn't see this anywhere on this site, so here goes. Sportsman's Warehouse, South Hill, Puyallup. There was a "sandwich board" sign in the lobby today (Thursday, Jan. 2nd) for a drifting for steelhead seminar 6-8pm tomorrow Fri. Jan 3, at the store. JR Hall and the owners of River Bend Jigs will b...

How to make your own lake maps
I thought there may be fishermen out there who might want to learn how to make a color depth contour map of their favorite fishing spot(s). First of all, you must have a Humminbird or Lowrance “combo” fishfinder with GPS and an SD card slot for recording the data. Some lakes/areas may never be mappe...

Re: Mitchell 300 (old school version)
The paperwork is for a 300/301. The number on the body is 300, and the reel seat only says "Mitchell Taiwan". If memory serves, I bought it back in the early 80's, maybe late 70's?

Re: Mitchell 300 (old school version)
Quadfather, Thank you. After reading your thread, I dug out my old hardly used (a little North Dakota walleye catching) Mitchell 300 (lefthand), gave it a grease change and oil job, and paired it up with a new Shimano Convergence CVS-L100M2B. The inside is all metal gears and the grease was like new...

Re: for those who love bucket biologists as much as I do
I have fished Mineral many times and mapped it. Mineral Lake allows gas motors and has an 8 mph speed limit posted at the WDFW launch. I also came across sites that say no gas motors and maps that show the launch in the wrong place. Amx is right, there are errors on the WDFW site. I have e-mailed th...

Re: GPS Fish Finder
Last spring I did a LOT of comparative research on all SI units and found the best bang for the buck was the Humminbird 598ci HD SI (dual cone 20/60, down imaging, side imaging, SD card slot, 4K watts). They retail at 799.99, but shop ebay and you can find them down to $600 (new, factory-sealed, war...

Barometer vs Kokanee?
I read some east coast commercial fishermen’s posts about their observations to changing barometric pressure and their fishing success. Fish with large air bladders are most affected by barometric pressure changes (trout, redfish, tarpon, grouper, snapper,…). Of our local Puget Sound area fish (sock...

Re: Trolling speed ap for Droid?
Yes, the phone is GPS equipped, but it still needs an app to convert and display miles/hour. The apps I have tried don't do a very good job with slow speeds.

Trolling speed ap for Droid?
Does anyone know of a good trolling speed app for my Motorola Droid (original Droid from 2009)? I have tried a few from the Google app store without good results.

How To Can Fish
Back in the 1980s I used to fish Deep Lake in Nolte State Park, north of Enumclaw, Washington. Because I lived only a mile away, it was an almost daily activity. It is a nice small, closed-basin, “no gas engines” lake with depths to 90 feet. Rainbow, silver and cutthroat were easily caught with popg...

Re: internet fisherman/forums era
One of the best things I see with the forums is that newbies can drastically shorten their learning curve and become better fisherpersons. After all, they are learning from the best who are willing to share. I never trusted fishing info from a tight-lipped fisherman who was afraid I would "out fish"...

I use the WDFW site for lake info. They give directions, species, motor restrictions, pictures, etc. for all lakes where there is a WDFW launch facility.
