Re: Legalities of WDFW Police personal property search
IT's right there in the regulations. By purchasing and participating in fishing activities you partially give up your right to privacy. It's on page 12 of your regluations in the bottom right hand corner - "You are required to - Show fish, shellfish , and seaweed in your possession and required lice...

Re: newb switch rod questions
A large arbor reel will be needed to hold the big diameter lines. Go with a 7 or 8. There are a lot of opinions on reels. I fish Temple Fork reels, I like 'em. You'll want it light, but don't break the bank. For a switch rod, I'd get a Rio Switch line, a Skagit Short, and a kit of versi tips. You'll...

Re: Best king county lakes for pan fish or bass?
I dunno, maybe use the reports section to figure that out. The data there is going to be ten times better than a couple of anecdotal reports here... http://www.washingtonlakes.com/CountyLakeList.aspx?id=16" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I dunno nothing bout bass though. I could be wa...

I don'tg use spawn sacs, but if I do, it's just the normal ones you get in the store. A nice glob of cured eggs works just fine. I like a 1/0 or 2/0 hook.

20 lbs. braid and 15 mono leader, couple of pac man weights above the swivel. A lot of guys go lighter than that, but they lose a lot more fish too.

Eggs under a float. Sand shrimp under a float. Eggs and sand shrimp under a float. Eggs or sand shrimp or eggs and sand shrimp plunked with a spin and glow from the plunking area by the boat ramp.

Re: Emergency Closure: Columbia River Spring Chinook
I think the important thing to remember is that they were here first. We came in and started taking their land, taking their fish. We made a good effort to help them recover their lost fishing rights when we helped them out with the dams that trapped the fish for them. Now that the runs are becoming...

Re: Emergency Closure: Columbia River Spring Chinook
They do. They work with the department to sample the tails of the wild fish before releasing them. But, like kids picking strawberries, their buckets often come back empty for some reason.

Re: Bulls on the Skagit System: Skagit, Sauk, Suiattle, Casc
Yep, there's so much conflicting information about 'em. I find it interesting because it's illustrative of just how little we know about the natural world. Sure, we have our pet species, salmon whales, wolves etc. but the scientists can't even agree on whether they're dollies or bulls... they have n...

The simple fact is that they don't know enough about 'em to say what they are. They can interbreed, and they probably have. Whatever they are, fishing for them is fun. I'm not going to get into an argument over it, because I don't care.

Re: Bulls on the Skagit System: Skagit, Sauk, Suiattle, Casc
I've caught them reliably year round, in all conditions. When the rivers are silty or colered I've hadd luck with black spoons and flies. In the summer, I'm usually headed out with the spey rod to fish the stilly, and black and purple, or black with gold flash is really the only pattern I use, and i...

Re: Bulls on the Skagit System: Skagit, Sauk, Suiattle, Casc
They are both Dollies and bull trout. The only way tot ell them apart is to count their fin rays - http://www.fishingwithrod.com/articles/fish_biology/dolly_varden_and_bull_trout.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Since they coexist in the same rivers and they are also able to inter...

Re: what opinions do you have on rod building? worth it or n
It's as expensive or more expensive. Getting a good blank is key. I built a barrier dam springer rod out of a spey rod blank that worked great. But the reason to build is because you get to put fancy doings on it, like a really nice reel seat, or titanium guides, or wrap around guides for your downr...

Re: Bulls on the Skagit System: Skagit, Sauk, Suiattle, Casc
Swing a fly. Cast a spoon. Gold seems to work the best, especially in the summer when the river opens back up, tthe suckers are spawning. Cut a dolly open and their belly is stuffed with 'em. When they let the smolt out in the cascade, the river is inundated with the predatory bastards. Cast into a ...
