Re: WDFW Sprague Lake Management Plan

Sprague used to be a great fishery! Big bass both smallies and largemouth, huge bluegill, big trout and catfish etc. I would fish it several times a year. It used to have a healthy population of crawfish, then the walleye became king of the lake. Almost every walleye I caught was gorged with crawfis...

RE:F & W Commission Approves 50" Minimum Size

Good job getting this rule through the system. Are you sure it is 50"? The way I read it, it is 48". #6. Tiger Muskie Rules Proposal: This proposal would set the minimum size for tiger muskie at 48” with a daily limit of one fish. Explanation: Tiger muskies are sterile hybrids that don’t reproduce. ...

RE:Sonic Tracking of Tiger Muskies

That is a very informative post, Dr. Hook. What do you attribute to the depth preferences of the fish in relation to the time of year? I know nothing about the lake and couldn't find a topo map on Mayfield. Do you think that their depth is in relation to comfort zones with the lake turning over, ie...

RE:Northern Pike

Fanatical warmwater guys just love to have their pet fish in all the lakes. Its a huge problem and a constant battle for WDFW. If musky were not sterile I can guarantee you that they too would be finding their way into and populating many lakes around the state. The fines for transporting fish shoul...

RE:New to the Northwest looking for muskies

Hi Guys, I'm new to the northwest. I am an avid musky fisherman, looking for a place to fish up here. Most of my previous time has been spent fishing in Wisconsin. Couple questions. What lakes in Washington have Tiger Muskies? Are there any guides you could recommend? Thanks for any info/advice. We...

Sonic Tracking of Tiger Muskies

Ever wonder how far Musky travel and what time of year they travel. The following maps should help give an idea. It should also help with giving you an idea of where and where not to fish. :fish: In October 1997, nine tiger muskies (Table 10) were implanted with Sonotronic sonic tags, including one ...

RE:Musky size limit..what do it be?

Don, I sure hope it goes to 50". That will give us a chance to catch a real trophy that otherwise would be almost nonexistant. Got my fingers x'd. Not really true. Most WA musky will die of natural causes before they every reach 50". Sorry to disappoint you but thats a fact. As I've stated before, ...

RE:Rulemaking Update

I got a chance to see the comments on the proposed change to the minimum size limit. There were several comments in support (to all of you who submitted these comments, thank you), and two against. The names of the commenters were deleted, but one of them consisted of arguments very similar to thos...

RE:WDFW Diet Studies

So I have been biting my tongue for a while now. I will not be silent anymore. Dr.Hook, first off I find it very funny that you consider trout, kokanee, and coho a game fish. instead of busting the chops of a musky fisherman, why don't you go kill some Sea loins or something! " Protect your garbage...

I always thought of trout as fish that guys go after for food to eat. When I think of Sport Fish the first fish that comes to mind is the Tiger Musky. Tiger Musky......All other fish are just bait! That would include trout. :) Everyone has their own desires and needs with it comes to fishing. I'll ...

YB -- You say tiger muskies are "unwanted" yet that clearly is not the sentiment of the numerous muskie anglers posting in this thread. Apparently it's your sentiment ... may I ask why you don't want tiger muskies in our waters? We're in a tiger musky forum, of course the general concensous will be...

Good info thanks for taking the time to post it. By the way, how did you figure out my gender so quickly? There's only one person I know who knows that much about Mayfield muskys. *wink* Who is the WDFW district biologist? I would like to follow up on the Kokanee in Tapps idea. I do know that at one...
