Drove up With the kids to the short 1/10th of a mile walk to Coal Lake. There are several nice camp sites on the lake. The lake is small maybe 9 or 10 acres. There is almost consistent surface feeding. I could see fish 6 to 9 inches but they would not take my spinner. This little lake is beautiful, pretty shades of green and blue. I'll most likely be back with the kids next year to camp and try to figure these fish out. One other note. There are 3 other lakes to hike to within a 1/2 mile of coal lake - Pass lake trail head is 2 tenths of a mile past coal lake and unmarked. and a little further down the road it ends with a trail head to Independence and north lakes. Bring your trail head parking pass. Keep it Clean Cracker Jack
