Kitsap County’s Square Lake is located about 4 ½ miles SW from Port Orchard. It covers 7.9 surface acres, has mostly shallow depths and lies at an elevation of 400 feet. Fish species include largemouth bass, bluegill, bullhead catfish and reportedly yellow perch. Public access is through the Square Lake State Park. The access area provides very limited but usually adequate parking space, a rough boat launch area best suited for hand carried craft, and a clean pit toilet. Small trailered boats can be launched but a 4 wheel drive tow vehicle is advised. There are picnic tables and barbecues on site but no overnight camping. Campground host lives on property. The lake has only one private home on the shoreline with the rest still in a natural state. Three beaver huts are located on the lake. There lots of pads and the lake is ringed with reeds.
